European High-Strength Structural

6082

The European standard structural alloy, with the highest strength in the 6xxx series and excellent corrosion resistance.

310–340 MPa UTS
260–310 MPa Yield Strength
8–12% Elongation

6082 (AlSi1MgMn) is the most widely used structural alloy in Europe, equivalent to American 6061 but with better mechanical strength and similar corrosion resistance. Its manganese content (0.40–1.0%) provides superior grain control, achieving the highest mechanical properties in the 6xxx series. Rapidly growing in Mexico for structural automotive applications like crash management bars, bumper beams, and subframe components.

Special Notes

6082 is the European EN 755/EN 12020 standard for structural profiles, equivalent to North American 6061 but with superior mechanical properties. Its Mn content (0.40–1.0%) — much higher than 6061's (≤0.15%) — is the key to its superior strength. In Mexico it is growing rapidly due to demand from European OEMs (VW, Audi, BMW) specifying 6082 for structural automotive components.
