Frequently Asked Questions
What is an aluminum flat bar?
An aluminum flat bar (solera) is an extruded profile with a solid rectangular cross-section — a flat bar defined by its width and thickness, for example 1 1/2" × 1/2". Unlike a tube or an angle, it has no cavity and no legs: it is solid material edge to edge, which makes it easy to cut, drill, weld and machine. It is the profile of choice when you need a flat, strong and lightweight part for reinforcements, frames, brackets and bases.
What aluminum flat bar sizes does the catalog carry?
Our flat-bar catalog covers 9 combinations of size, alloy and temper, from 1/2" to 3" wide: 1/2" (0.500" × 0.77"), 3/4" (0.750" × 0.250"), 1 1/2" (1.50" × 0.500") and 3" in 0.250" and 0.390" thicknesses. Lengths run from 1.5 to 6.1 metres depending on the size. The table on this page lists every variant with its dimension, length, alloy and temper. If the specification you need is not listed, we produce it to order.
Which alloys and tempers are the flat bars made in?
We produce flat bar in three alloys, each for a different job. 6063 is the architectural alloy: better surface finish and excellent anodizing response, ideal for visible elements. 6061 — usually in T6 temper — is the structural one: higher mechanical strength and good machinability, for brackets and load-carrying parts. 3003 is not heat-treatable and is chosen when formability and corrosion resistance matter more than strength. The catalogued tempers are T5, T6 and F (as-extruded).
How much does an aluminum flat bar weigh?
It depends on the cross-section: weight per metre is the section area times the density of aluminum, close to 2.70 g/cm³ (one third that of steel). For the 1 1/2" × 1/2" bar in 6063-T5 that we catalog, the weight is 1.306 kg per linear metre — that is 7.1046 kg for the 5.44 m length and 7.9666 kg for the 6.1 m length. For the other sizes our technical team calculates the exact weight of your cut when quoting.
What is the difference between a flat bar, a strip and a flat profile?
In Mexican practice the three names describe the same product: an extruded bar with a solid rectangular section. "Solera" is the common term in metalwork and construction, "platina" is heard in northern Mexico, and "perfil plano" or "flat bar" is how it usually appears in technical and import catalogs. If you are searching for any of the three, this is the page — the word changes, the profile does not.
Where can I buy aluminum flat bar in Mexico?
Transformación Puebla manufactures and supplies aluminum flat bar from its plant in San Pedro Cholula, Puebla, on central Mexico’s industrial corridor. We serve metalworking shops, machine shops, construction firms and equipment manufacturers across Puebla, Tlaxcala, Mexico City and the Bajío region, with standard lengths and cut-to-size service. Request a quote stating size, alloy, temper, length and quantity; a sales engineer reviews the specification and prepares the proposal.
Need aluminum profiles?
We manufacture aluminum bars with optimized chemical composition for extrusion. Our 6063, 6061, 6005, and 6082 alloys ensure profiles with the mechanical properties, surface finish, and heat treatment response your process requires. Request a quote; we review your alloy spec and volume.
