Master Alloy — Concentrated Modifier

AlSr15 (EN 575)

Concentrated version of 15% strontium modifier. Greater efficiency and lower addition volume per ton.

15 % Sr Strontium
Modifica Si Effect
+33 % vs 10 % Efficiency

AlSr15% is the concentrated version of the eutectic silicon modifier, with 15% strontium instead of the standard 10%. The higher Sr concentration allows reducing the material volume added to the melt by ~33%, which reduces metal cooling and the amount of dross generated. The metallurgical effect is identical to AlSr10%: modification of eutectic Si from acicular to fibrous. Preferred in high-volume operations where addition efficiency matters.

Chemical Composition

ElementSymbolPercentage
Aluminum Al Balance (~85 %)
Strontium Sr 14.0–16.0 %
Iron Fe ≤ 0.25 %
Silicon Si ≤ 0.20 %

Physical Properties

Property Value
Melting point 650–700 °C
Density ~2.55 g/cm³
Form Waffle o barra cortada

Metallurgical Function

Same function as AlSr10%: eutectic Si modification. The higher concentration allows lower addition volume, less melt cooling, and less dross generation during operation.

Dosage & Usage

Target residual: 0.015–0.040% Sr. Typical addition: 0.7–1.7 kg/ton (~33% less than AlSr10%). Same temperature and dissolution time parameters as the 10% version.

Applications

  • Same applications as AlSr10%, preferred for high volume
  • Operations seeking to minimize melt cooling
  • Foundries with automated dosing systems

Industries

Automotive (High Volume)

Auto parts foundries with continuous A356/A360 production

Aluminum Casting

High-volume operations where addition efficiency is a priority

Special Notes

Same precautions as AlSr10%: control hydrogen porosity with adequate degassing. AlSr15% can be slightly more brittle than the 10% version, handle with care. Choose between 10% and 15% depending on production volume and addition system.
