Silicio 2202
High-purity grade for premium alloys with strict impurity requirements. Fe and Al controlled at ≤ 0.2 %.
Silicon 2202 is a high-purity grade with Fe ≤ 0.2 %, Al ≤ 0.2 %, and Ca ≤ 0.02 %, resulting in Si purity ≥ 99.3 %. The 2202 nomenclature indicates: 22 = 0.2 % Fe + 0.2 % Al, 02 = 0.02 % Ca. It is used for alloys demanding lower impurity levels than grade 3303, particularly when the customer requires trace certification for structural or safety-critical applications.
Chemical Composition
| Element | Symbol | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| Silicon | Si | ≥ 99.3 % |
| Iron | Fe | ≤ 0.20 % |
| Aluminum | Al | ≤ 0.20 % |
| Calcium | Ca | ≤ 0.02 % |
| Phosphorus | P | ≤ 0.02 % |
Physical Properties
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Melting point | 1,414 °C |
| Density | 2.33 g/cm³ |

Metallurgical Function
Raise silicon content with minimal impurity contribution to the melt. For applications where final mechanical properties critically depend on Fe level and residual trace elements.
Dosage & Usage
Dosed according to target alloy. Recommended for production runs using primary aluminum where total Fe below 0.12–0.15 % is targeted.
Applications
- Premium alloys: A356.2 with Fe ≤ 0.12 %
- Automotive and aerospace structural components
- High-purity primary smelting
Industries
Aerospace
Alloys with ultra-strict impurity specs for flight components
Structural Automotive
Safety-critical parts where ductility depends on low Fe
Special Notes
Available on order. We recommend evaluating whether grade 3303 meets your requirements before opting for 2202, as the purity difference may not be significant for many secondary casting applications.
