Titanium sponge tablets/compacts at 80% with flux salt. Economical alternative for direct grain refinement.
Titanium 80% comes as tablets or compacts made from titanium sponge (~80%) mixed with flux salt (~20%, typically KAlF₄ or cryolite). When submerged in the molten aluminum bath, the flux salt dissolves the oxide film, facilitating titanium incorporation into the liquid metal. It is a more economical alternative to AlTi master alloys for direct titanium addition, although with less consistent recovery. Used mainly for grain refinement in medium-volume foundries.

Metallurgical Function
Grain refinement by direct titanium addition to the bath. Titanium forms TiAl₃ particles that act as nucleation sites. The flux salt facilitates dissolution and cleans the metal-titanium interface.
Dosage & Usage
Typical addition: 1–3 tablets per ton depending on tablet size and desired Ti level. Variable recovery (60–85%). Submerge with plunger bell and hold 2–3 minutes below the surface until complete tablet dissolution.

Special Notes
Ti recovery is more variable than with AlTi master alloys. For production requiring strict and repeatable grain control, we recommend AlTi5B1 (AlTiBoron). Ti 80% tablets generate some smoke and dross from the flux salt — use in a well-ventilated area. Do not confuse with AlTi master alloys: Ti 80% is titanium sponge compacted with flux, not a proper master alloy.
